Fernando Alonso escapes penalty in Monaco

Double World Champion Fernando Alonso has escaped penalty after being summoned by the Monaco stewards in regards to his crash during Thursday’s second free practice. The Spaniard had to explain why he had driven an entire lap following his crash on the barriers on Turn 1 where he damaged and lost his rear wing.

“I told them that I thought I had driven safely, without endangering anyone, and also that there wasn’t any good areas to stop,” the Spaniard explained to Spain’s Diario AS.

“I thanked them, and that’s it,” he said referring to the steward’s decision not to penalise him.
